Combat Hair Probs Origins

Combat Hair Probs was founded by two combat sports athletes who met at a grappling tournament in Portland, Oregon. One of which happened to be a hairstylist, and this spawned a conversation about the age-old question in this sport - what do you do with your freakin’ hair?! Ask any female in combat sports - the fun bun and ponytails just don’t hold up when you’re training and competing hard. We were tired of having to redo our hair between rounds at practice, and we were definitely tired of being held back by hair in our face on the mat competing. The resource we wanted didn’t exist. So we created it. We’re elevating the tournament experience so you can compete with confidence.

Sophie Gomez - Co-Owner, Head of Operations

Sophie is a Black Belt in Hawaiian Kempo MMA and a BJJ Purple Belt and has been training in combat sports since 2011. She’s a mom to 3 kids and gym owner with her husband, Cruz. Find Sophie responding to DMs, emails, shipping your orders, and coordinating details for the Braid Booths™!

Maddy Larson - Co-Owner, Head Braider & Professional Hairstylist

Maddy is a BJJ Blue Belt and has been training BJJ since 2018 after leaving a toxic marriage. She found relief, encouragement, and security in the community that the sport brings.
